Rolling

Summer is really rolling now. Lobster and blueberry crisp with J's family for the 4th. Attempts at watching the "big city" fireworks in jammies from our little boat which were foiled by 3 of the 5 falling asleep before the real show started and the fact that we don't have a spotlight to guide the boat in the dark which left #1 too nervous to enjoy himself and therefore J ready to navigate us home in the darkness. It looks like almost all of the area's lobster pots are out making the waters around us an obstacle course, even in broad daylight.

#1 started sailing camp today and after a timid drop-off, ended up skippering a boat, making new friends, and loving the camp. The Spark and Zippy are winding toward their performance in a musical rendition of 101 Dalmations and alternately loving it and disliking it depending on what they are missing when they are at rehearsal. Princess Eee had her first morning of "Kids' Camp" today which is really the daycare on the island but where several kids her age who are also too young for the other Recreation Dep't camps all go, so she believes it to be her camp when her big bro's and sis all go off to camps too.

It's been 90 and sunny for 2 days now with 3 more predicted. We've used our pool pass more already this year than all of last summer. Princess Eee has gone from screaming in terror when she found herself floating in the pool with her floatie on but no grown-up in her death grip grasp to donning her beloved pink floatie-vest and swimming the length of the shallow end solo, jumping far into the water from the edge, and floating on her back. Two weeks ago she wouldn't go under water on purpose and would come up screaming with panic if she did accidentally go under. What a difference 2 weeks of warm weather and a pool pass can make.

Cupcake unfortunately has a bee in her bonnet to put it nicely. She has been a walking tantrum machine so far this summer. She could write the book and teach the course on throwing a mean temper tantrum. Everything, everything, sets her off lately. We get our groceries delivered out here once a week, so the day before the order arrives, we've been running out of the pink Stoneyfields yogurts that she likes. Well, watch out and run the other way of she decides she wants a pink yogurt Sunday afternoon or Monday morning! They come in six packs so I can't just ask for 1 or 2 extra each week. Oh, and if she wants to go to the pool, it better be open for free swim and everyone better be ready to get in the car that instant and get to the pool or else! Today she decided she wanted to go swimming in the pool, NOT in the ocean because she really hates the hermit crabs that inevitably scurry past her feet, and the pool is not an option for free swim until 1pm. It was too early for the pool and when J tried explaining this to Cupcake as she began her spiral into fury, she yelled, "Mommy open pool!" Sorry, kid, even Mommy can't make them let you in the pool before 1pm no matter how horrible the tantrum gets. And she wants ice cream all the time now. And when she screams for it, it sounds more like she's yelling, "Jim Beam!" So that's always fun. reminds me of when her word for "please" sounded much more like "bitch" for some reason so every time I had to strap her in her carseat with the door open of course so anyone remotely close could hear her screaming, "BITCH, Mommy, BITCH!" So give the kid more Jim Beam because her mommy is a bitch, and we'll all have a nice summer.

Funny Lisen! Elio's tantrum last night was bc the dentist had said he can't brush his teeth last night (he had a special fluoride treatment they didn't want him to brush off). He doesn't like brushing, but tell him he can't? Holy Yow!
