The word from Guatemala today is that the meeting between the judge and Ali's birthmother went well. According to the translator, the judge is in favor of the adoption proceeding. The translator thought the judge was ready to sign off on the case. BUT, the birthmother forgot her ID. We have no idea who the translator is, but I am pretty certain that she would tell our agency rep what he wanted to hear so that he would think she did a good job. Then we also heard that the meeting went well from a very simplified recap from our attorney. He is never very forthcoming with details. Maybe he really doesn't like using the English language, or maybe he's always in a big hurry, but he can be counted on to be very brief. Anyway, he said it went well too, and that he hopes this will now allow the judge to make a decision. He has said that everytime anything has happened on this case.

Since Ali's birthmother did not bring her ID to court today, our attorney has to take a copy of it to court. This could be a huge problem. I can think of several things that the judge could find wrong with that scenario not the least of which is that it could take weeks. Even if he takes the copy to court tomorrow, judging from how long it took the last worthless doctor's report to get from the mailroom to the judge, it could be weeks again before we hear anything else from the judge.

Yes, we have taken a step forward today, a mighty big step even. Unfortunately that does not mean that we are any closer to completing this adoption since each step forward has meant another step is added on. Maybe we'll have some clarification tomorrow.
